‘The Shade of the Flowering Tree’ shows the strong friendship between the poet’s father and his brother in law. When the brother in law died poet’s dad did all necessary things for his funeral rituals. It became dark, he walked along the riverside. Next morning he was found dead at the river side. The farmers took him and placed him under the shade of the flowering tree. This true friendship reminds us of the landlord Kopperunjozhan and poet Pisiraanthaiyaar referred in ancient classic Sankam poetry. Here both are relatives and became the best friends. Finally one followed the other in death also. This unique feature needs a special mention here.
