Dr Govindasamy Viswanathan is the Founder Chancellor of the Vellore Institute of Technology (VIT) University which ranks among the top ten engineering institutions in India. VIT today has nearly 46000 students and covers 883 acres in 4 campuses at Vellore, Chennai, Bhopal and Amaravati In 2019 the Govt of India recognized VIT as an Institution of Eminence (loE). a rare distinction bestowed on only 20 universities In the country.
